Worm bins are great for composting a small amount of food waste on apartment balconies. We instruct thousands of people how to worm compost at the Vancouver Compost Garden in Vancouver BC Canada. (www.cityfarmer.org)

Anyone know if there is an easy way to get red worms for free (or the cost of shipping)?

I have acarus, or mites, in my worm bin.
They don“t hurt the worms, I think, but they eat the food.
Do I have to get rid of them? How?
    Thanks 4 your answers

Actually, you should bury your scraps to prevent fruit flies.

Great thanks! As an apartment dweller I found my herb garden lacking in flavor, and came to the conclusion that it was because of using plain old potting soil. Now to find some worms.
