Maui is working on starting it’sown chapter of the National Farmer’s Union under the Hawaii Farmers Union and is meeting once a month with an average of 90 to 100 members per meeting. In addition to the actual meeting, there has been great food served in a Pot-Luck Style. Local Farmers are also bringing to the meetings their seeds, produce, cuttings and most of all knowledge in how to successfully farm smaller lands. Issues at hand on a government level are defining what constitutes a small farm and a small farmers, including the revenue per year that they are expected to make in order to remember for reduced rates in areas such as water and farming. Presently 70% of the food consumed in the world comes from the diverse array of small and family farms.
