Is there something I could purchase or make naturally that will get rid of ants and insects in the garden?

you can make several “pesticides” yourself with a little garlic and soap water mixture. Many bugs are instantly repelled by this mixture. One of the best ways to repel bugs is to co-plant things that attract or repel different types of bugs. For our vegetable garden we always include Marigolds (calendula) which are great companion plants for tomatoes and repel many types of insects on account of their strong scent.
There are many different tricks like these. There’s a book called “Organic Plant Protection” that is great for identifying and repeling specific types of infests. The editor is Roger B. Yepsen, Jr. and it’s $.01 on Amazon.

Oh, and you can buy Borax, which is inert to humans, but most bugs hate it, including ants. The only thing about spreading it around your garden is it will kill good insects too, which there are many of, who work to keep your garden growing…It’s better for use around the house.
