ComposTumbler 02001 Compact 12 Cubic Foot Galvanized Metal Compost Bin

Hello My Name is venu, resident of Maryland, USA.
I am not connected to Jora Form company or any other composter manufacturing companies mentioned in my review. I am just a lucky resident who was able to find out
about this great Jora composter, baught one and used it in cold weather and amazed by its performance.
So decided not to keep this fact with me, but to share with people like myself, who are serious about practicing home composting as part of life, and looking out to purchase
a composter that is as ambitious as your self and truly convert your (composting) wish to reality all round the year ( not just summer months, in dead winters too)
I baught my Jora Foram 270 composter from Farmer D orgonics website (Atlants) after researching for about 1 year. This is the place I found it cheaper. They are running 20% discount now.
How long they run this offer ? I am not sure. I compared the prices of JR125 with JR270 after discounts and 270 made more sence to me ( double the capacity for 50$ more) for the amount I pay. Finally I paid 265 + shipping comes to $305.00
The customer service of FarmerD Organis is great. Shipping of the product was very quick. But if you find it some where else cheaper, why not, please shop around.(brouse around).
The results are AMAZING.
This is simply ‘THE BEST THOUGHT OF , THE BEST DESIGNED, and THE BEST BUILT, THE BEST W O R K I N G, ALL SEASON( COLD WINTER WINTER) , NON ELECRIC,
REASONABLY PRICED’ COMPOSTER AVAILABLE IN THE WORLD TODAY( available in SWEDEN ( designed in) , US, UK, GENMANY, ITALY, SPAIN, GREECE, IRELAND, FINLAND,
AUSTRALIA, FRANCE, NORWAY, CANADA, ISTONIA, TURKEY, MALTA, PORTUGAL, CZECH REPUBLIC, MEXICO).
The popularity of the JR composters is just picking up USA.
Jora’s official website : [...]
I will list all aspects of the process of research for the best of the best composter, features I looked for, price point, shopping experience, and how the product is working.
Around summer 2007 I some how got inspired to make a difference by making the habit of compopsting , recycling as part of our house hold daily routine.
Part of of the srirr came from my gardening hobby and my love for the green and clean world.
I immediately started seperated recyclable items from trash and set up seperate bins for tins / botles and paper. Its going well.
The nexr part is to deal with the KITCHEN FOOD WASTE, GRASS CLIPPINGS and DECOMPOSABLE YARD STUFF like spent flowers leaves etc.
I began looknig at composters of various types, bare bins, boxes, rotating drums, wormfarm composters, etc etc.
By looking reading about how they work, expecially reading the reviews by users I learned the following facts :
1. Bins, tings , wire meshes , and other basic composters are barely server as containers, rater than do any good to accelerate the process of composting.
Mother nature has to do 90% of work, and you have to do the rest of the 10% work, stirring , mixing. 3 Major set backs are a) Slow process, takes up to
6 – 12 monts or longer if you never turn the stuff. b) Batch process. Once the bin is full, you don’t know where to keep the ever coming food waste from
the kitchen and yard, ( solution is having multiple ones. Still slow) c) Back breakign turning job and frustrating waiting months together.
Only good thing is they are relatively cheep.
2. The second grade is – Worm based one. I have not tried one my self. But read that.. dealing with worms will be messy job. Its not a fit for urban homes like mine.
3. The Best type of composters that are available are Rotating Drum type. They are Expensive ( but in my view instead of having 4 bins cost some serious money, spend it
on ONE Serious well designed rotating composter costs about the same) but very practical.
So I narrowed down my drilling to only practical, very well designed composters.
In the midst of doing all this research I came across one unique elecrical composter ( Natire Mill , designed in california) and I am also using one now along with
my JR270. I will talk more about Nature Mill later in the reviws. I have not decided yet weather to return my Nature Mill or not , my JR 270 is pretty much satisfying
my composting needs by even working in winter. ( which is why , for WINTER I baught Nature Mill, but now I have to think weater to kee it also or return)
Cut to the chase : only 2 composting systems made it my final list and only 1 made it to my runner up list.
—————–
FINALISTS :
———–
1. Jora Form composter . Model JK 125 . and Model JK 270. ( all Jora composters have 2 compartments / FLAWLESSLY WORK IN COLD WINTER)
2. Nature Mill Composter . Model : PLUS series ( the volume it can hanle is very less, in a way its also a bacth composter it the supply of waste exceeds the small capacity it offers)
RUNNER UP:
———-
1. Compost Tumbler 2 ( made in Lancester, PA / with two compartments / but WILL NOT WORK IN WINTER)
Rest all failed to make it to my final list because : regardless of whether they are cheap or expensive, they are not as well designed as the above 3.
Some lack balance once filled, some lack holding the temparature inside, some lack easy rotating mechanism, some or just way overly priced, some are not
practical designs etc etc…leaving all of them behind….lets take a looks at our( my ) TOP 3.
First the Runner UP : ComposTumbler2.
—————————————
CompostTumbler makes several models all the models other than ComppostTumbler2 are single chambers that makes them batch mode ( in contrast to continuous mode) composters and hence not
compared against JR270 or JR125.
PLUS : Dual Chamber. Works Great in Summer Months.
MINUS : List price is $613.00. Even with coupon or discoounts etc you may get it around 500.00 ( if you search the web hard).
Capacity is : Around 60 Gallong Each compartment.
IT WILL NOT WORK IN WINTERE.
** I called the compamny 2 times to double confirm if it works in WINTER. They said NO, it will not.
THE WINNER : JR 270 / or JR125 :
——————————–
PLUS : List price : $335.00 ( now available for 285.00 at formard organics, USA) ( JR125 265.00 ( available for 212.00, same place)
Capacity : SAME AS CompostTumbler2)
BIG ADVANTAGE IS : IT WORKS IN WNTER TOO !!!!!
MINUS : YOU need to assemble your self. ( which is not a big deal)
I noticed JR’s INSULATION and CHAMBER’s CALICULATED VOLUME makes the big difference.
Finally about Nature Mill :
—————————-
1. Expensive for the capacity it provides. Costs about 230.00 in costco, I recommend to buy at costco. Returns are easy, cheap.
2. If you will only have kitchn waste, and you have 1 or 2 people in the home. NO yard waste, no grass clippings this might be a good choice.
3. YOu don’t have to TURN. you can put it in your kitchen , or any where in door, or in garage, anywhere.
One point is : The first generation if Nature Mills came with a less powerfull motors and caused JAM’s a lot of times. I returned 2 of the first generation
nature mills (plus series). But the second generation ones are now available came with double the strong motors. And I never had a clog or JAM looks like
they really fixed the issue.
I really likes the product, but suffered with JAM’s and VERY SMALL CAPACITY which forced me throw some potential food wasre in trash.
Thats why again, if you have only very small kitchen waste…then only…NatureMill. Buiying 2 of them is very expensive.
ALL IN ALL – in all aspects I found none to beat the JR 270 or JR 125.
I hope this long riview helped at lease a few people to choose their composter.
I actually video taped my JR 270 in action in last saturday 19/12/09 while it was -7 C out there and having a snow storm. I was thrilled to see the hot fumes
inside my JR 270 composter. Thata what inspired me to write such long review. If possible I will post the video in utube shortly.
Thank you.

The Compact ComposTumbler is generally a good design for use on a deck, especially with the heavy duty crack to rotate the drum. Unfortunately, the door design is lacking. In order to open the door, it must be removed completely, then replaced. Replacing the door is not an easy task, because latches must be placed directly into catches while simultaneously re-curving the door to the round shape of the unit. My wife refuses to do it, because it is too difficult for her, and she does not feel as though she should have to spend so much time just closing a door.
Attention to a little detail would drastically improve usability of this unit.

Our shipment did not have the assembly directions included. It was initially frustrating, for the assembly is somewhat complex. However, the staff responded quickly and got us the necessary instructions. They followed up several times to make sure we were pleased. I’d buy from them again, for any item. Good job!

I bought this particular model of composter because of a previous review that called it the “cadillac” of composters. It is nice and big and I have not used it for long but the handle seems to be the best part of the design. I do not particularly like the way that the door comes off and on because I have to hook one side, bend the metal door around the curve and then double latch. There is a slightly annoying tendency to unhook before it gets latched.
I just bought another composter that has a similar design but is made of plastic and without a handle to crank it around. Plastic seems like it will be more durable because it is less likely to rust.
Overall, a nice product but perhaps not worth the extra cost over competing models.

I bought this almost 2 years ago and have already had to replace one of the metal sides as a hole rusted right through it with in one year. I do not think this product is worth the amount that is charged. I would look for something made all of compost plastic as metal is a poor choice. There are other products that charge a lot less that I would consider also.
